The West Basin is the Galisteo Basin Preserve’s first conservation neighborhood, encompassing five magnificent off-the-grid equestrian homesteads that range from 125 to 265 acres.
Each homestead offers residents an extraordinary quality of privacy and breathtaking views to the surrounding mountains and the Petroglyph Hill cultural resource area. Carefully configured to protect the region’s scenic, wildlife habitat, cultural, and recreational resources, the 3.4-4.5-acre building area for each parcel can accommodate a home, a guesthouse, and a barn. All parcels permit horses.

The land area beyond a parcel's designated home site is privately held by the owner but managed in accordance with the conservation values of the West Basin and the larger Galisteo Basin Preserve of which it is part. To ensure permanent preservation of the West Basin's natural and cultural resources, each homestead parcel has been overlaid with a conservation easement—guaranteeing that more than 95 percent of the West Basin property will be protected for future generations.
Adjoining more than 4,500 acres of federal, state, and Santa Fe County public lands, as well as the Preserve’s thousands of acres of open space, the West Basin is in a world of its own, yet still within 25 minutes of the city of Santa Fe.
Like all Galisteo Basin Preserve community members, West Basin residents serve as land stewards for some of the region’s most significant cultural, historic, and ecological resources.
The last West Basin parcels were sold to conservation buyers in 2009.

Location
The West Basin is located on the southwestern edge of the Galisteo Basin Preserve, approximately two miles northwest of the Village of Galisteo. West Basin Ridge, accessed from Santa Fe County Road 42, is a private road serving four of the five parcels. 406 Camino los Abuelos is directly accessible from County Road 42.
